Judy Shriver Bernardo has been serving as our church secretary since November, 2024.
Judy was born and raised in Fort Ashby. She has attended church at Trinity United Methodist since she was a toddler.
Judy went to school in Fort Ashby, graduating in the last class at Fort Ashby High School in 1976. Her first two jobs were also in Fort Ashby, working at Bill’s Bait Shop after school and in the summer of 1972-75, which was owned by her grandparents, and then at Fort Ashby Pharmacy after school and on weekends from 1975-76 for Dick Lemay.
Not too long after graduation, Judy got a job in Cumberland, MD with Kelly Springfield Tire Company, where she worked for 23 years in several departments, until they were absorbed by Goodyear and relocated to Akron, OH. By that time, she was a single mother of her only son and elected not to relocate with them. While at the Kelly, she attended Allegany College of Maryland, pursuing a degree in Business/Computer Science. She also had my own AVON business from 1977 to 2018, with Kelly and local customers. She worked the 2000 Census, before starting her next job at CBIZ Financial Solutions, where I worked until 2016, when the office closed. She worked for a short time at Creekside Realty in Romney, WV until that office closed and then for Potomac Federal Credit Union in Cumberland. She left there in 2018 to take a job opportunity at Dawnview Nursing Home in Fort Ashby, where she handled accounts payable and acted as receptionist. Judy's mother became a resident there shortly after she began working there. She retired from Dawnview in November of 2024, but she still goes there most days to assist her mom with lunch or dinner. She also help with special activities when needed.
Most recently, Judy has joind the staff at Trinity United Methodist Church as Financial Secretary. She loves her church and church family and feels very fortunate to be selected for this job.
Outside of work, Judy is happily married since 2018 to her husband and best friend, Joe Bernardo. They are the parents of two wonderful sons – Michael Shriver, married to Brittany Growden and John Bernardo, married to Kaitlyn Kerkhoff. They enjoy dining out, listening to music, watching movies, walking and doing things with family. They hope to do some travelling, now that they are both retired from their full-time jobs. Judy and Joe are also the parents of three cats and six ferals, recently rescued. Their goal is to finish socializing the feral cats and find them good homes.
